Paint and Infrastructure

Thursday: Cat5 was strung along the basement floor and cut to length for the runs that needed to be made. Then was a stop by Home Depot to get low voltage boxes, cover plates, modular coax and Cat5 connectors, punchdowns, and a box for the basement to house all of the wires, splitters, cable modem, router/firewall and ethernet switch. A dimmer for the under cabinet lights was also aquired.
Friday: Started cutting holes in the drywall for the low voltage boxes and attempted to drill some holes through to the basement. For that a new drill bit was needed, an aptly named "Installer Bit" a 3/8" bit that is 18" long, while I was out I also picked up a carpenter's square since I have been lacking one of those for many years now. I managed to get one hole drilled and the 3 wires pulled before I had to go get
alyska from work. I also got the dimmer switch and neighboring outlet wired and installed.
Saturday: Another van load of boxes deposited in the basement. With
alyska's help the bedroom and computer room got cat5 and coax. Then I fished the two boxes in the sunroom and terminated all of the cat5 that had been run so far with jacks and faceplates. The coax still needs to be purchased along with arrangements for a crimp tool, I've been fishing through scrap from the removal so I can attach the new stuff and pull it through the hole. Just the East bedrooms need the boxes installed and lines fished.
Sunday: Over early to start work and tried to mow the lawn but it was still damp, so I proceeded to go in and run the cat5 and coax for the East bedrooms. After I had those fished I started threading them along the floor joists back to where I will be installing the distribution panel.
TJ and Eriq showed up to do some painting (housewarming/wedding gift). While they were doing that I continued routing cable in the basement and vacuuming up some masses of cobwebs. Under the cobwebs I found a frame that fits into the strange unfinished hole around the breaker panel in the kitchen. Looks like it will clean it up nicely. I then mounted the media distribution panel next to the main power feeder in the basement, since there was room there and it was already nicely enclosed. It also happens to be where the cable, and phone (not that I'm using it, but the panel will accomodate it) enter the house. I even mounted it properly, a 3/4" bit of plywood attached with concrete anchors, and then the panel attaced to that with the included screws. Then I mowed the lawn since it was not damp anymore.
Eriq and TJ got the first coat of paint on the kitchen and guest bedroom (same color) before they had to head out, Eriq will be back Friday during the day to get a lot more done, he does this stuff for a living so it doesn't take him long and he does a good job. After they had to leave, I put the fridge panels back on and positioned it in the corner, moved the oven base cabinet next to it and wedged in the remaining 15" base cabinet, just needed the screw jack for a little bit of Moses action. Then I went and hung the upper cabinets, I also attached them to each other, leveled and secured to the wall. The under cabinet light that is located over by the dishwasher was installed and wired in. I realized when showing
alyska that those cabinets need to be shifted over about a half inch, which will be done tomorrow if I remember.
I forgot the camera all weekend, so pictures will be taken and hopefully posted tomorrow evening.
