This weekend more was accomplished in the basement. I made a really big mess. Concrete dust gets everywhere.

Saturday morning started out with a trip to the ReStore to look for a new access door for the garage. After not finding one large enough I noticed the stack of laminate flooring. Looking through I found 2 cases of Santos Mahogany and a case of Japanese Cherry both by Alloc and both rated to be in wet locations like bathrooms. Each case covers about 20sqft. and each bathroom is either just about that or less in actual covered floor space. So I got all three cases, and on the way to the checkout I passed the other thing I had my eye out for, slate tiles. 12"x12" gray slate tiles for $1.50 each. I grabbed all the good ones (36) and 6 partials ($0.25 each). Score. The slate will be used for backsplash above the counters in the kitchen and for backsplash around the sink and/or tub in the upstairs bathroom remodel. So after loading the car and killing the suspension and any acceleration that the car thought it had before I stopped by Farm and Fleet to look for self leveling floor coating, none there so it was home to relieve the car from the burden and show [livejournal.com profile] alyska the haul, all the flooring and tile for $153

Then it was back out to Menards to get the self leveling floor mix, a masonry blade to cut a drainage channel, flexible copper tube to put in the channel, and floor patch to cover it back up. I also ended up with the needed floor primer, a mixing paddle for the drill, a 5gal mixing bucket because the one I had at home was full of stuff, a 1/2" hammer-drill to spin the mixing paddle (and to drill holes in concrete for other things, all my other drills are 3/8")

After getting all of my supplies it was time to start in on the actual work. I removed the toilet and put it on the movers dolly and wheeled it over out of the way. Then, I put the new diamond blade in the saw and set the angle and poof, lots of dust everywhere. I made the cuts and then cleared the channel with the chisel and test fit the copper tube and it worked so I went on to the next stage. After cleaning out the channel I used some floor patch to encase the tubing. I put some patch material in then pressed the tubing down and filled the rest of the channel with more pre-mixed patch. Then it was some cleaning of the rest of the basement to gather some of the dust. The patch compound needed to sit overnight so after I cleaned up some I went back upstairs.

Sunday started slow, after [livejournal.com profile] alyska went to work I cleaned and vacuumed most of the upstairs and then went down and cleaned the area that would be getting the leveling patch. I got everything cleaned and blocked off just a little while before [livejournal.com profile] alyska was due back so I held off in starting. After a nice dinner out I started in on the primer. After the primer was down I went out to the garage and finished the other DVD/cat shelf/bench since [livejournal.com profile] alyska was able to get the last of the needed inserts. Then a bit of puttering around and it was time to do the mixing and pouring of the self leveling patch. The floor has been poured and is currently curing. I should be able to start fitting the DRIcore in a few days. Going to work on cleaning up the rest of the house first.
